Cat Scratch Fever
by catdogfishstore.infoCat scratch fever or commonly known as Cat scratch disease (CSD) is mainly a bacterial disease caused by a bacteria known as Bartonella henselae. This disease is transmitted from cats to humans as the result of a scratch or bite, or from the contact of cat saliva on broken skin or the eye. The lymph nodes may become swollen and tender and other symptoms of cat scratch fever may develop during CSD. The other symptoms include headache, fever, fatigue and decreased appetite.
Since cats are unable to tell us when and where it hurts, cat owners must be observant. If the cat is listless, withdrawn, comes uninterested in food, has muscle aches or pains and a rapid breathing rate, there may be cat scratch fever involved.
Cat Scratch Fever Treatment
These are some preventive measures that must be taken in order to avoid cat scratch disease in especially among the family members:
- Avoid contact with stray kittens and cats.
- If scratched, wash the scratch and the surrounding area with soap and water immediately.
- Wash your hands after playing with a cat.
- If a kitten or cat is an indoor pet, consider getting them de-clawed.
- Avoid rough play where the animal may want to bite or scratch you as a response.
- Regularly de-flea cats.
Doctors may diagnose CSD after exhausting several other tests because CSD can take on identifying symptoms of other illnesses. Since CSD is non-threatening to people with healthy immune systems, it is still safe to enjoy your little kitten or cat.
