There are number of reasons for a fur loss in cat. Normally it is because, of excessive grooming that the cats chews a lot. The health of the pet can be indicated by condition of the skin and the coat.

Hair loss in the cat is the most common reason that the cat is taken to a veterinarian. Hair loss can be caused because of number of reasons and in the medical term the hair loss in cat is alopecia (alopecia hair loss). There can be hair loss in kittens as well.

The hair loss in cat can be caused because of number of allergies, the most common is fleabites. Many cats possess flea bite allergy, where an intense reaction to the saliva of the flea is experienced. The general symptoms are namely extreme itching, redness, scaling, and hair loss. This may also develop as a result of saliva contact with the flea.

The other possible reason of the cat hair loss is mites; these are parasites that cause cats to pull out their hair. There are number of species of mites that arouse a condition called mange, because of which cats chew themselves and lick in order to get rid of the itching caused due to it.

Another possible reason is Ringworm hair loss, caused mostly around the face, ears, and feet. In this case hair disappears in small patches, and the skin turns dry, gray, and flaky. One should be careful regarding ringworms as it can be transmitted to humans.

Due to the glandular disorders, like Cushing’s disease also cause hair loss. This is caused because of the overproduction of steroids from the adrenal glands.

Hair loss in cats can be caused because of psychological factors such as nervousness, anxiety, stress or fear. It is a fact that cats are very sensitive to their environment, nearly anything can stress out a cat like change in food, weather another pet etc

The hair pulling or chewing activities in a cat is not considered good, while it may not be an easy task to find out the cause of this problem but one should always consult a vet at the earliest signs of cat hair loss or cat skin problems.
