Buying an aquarium is an easy task but aquarium maintenance is not that easy as tropical and salt water fish needs proper care. Fresh water aquarium maintenance is easier than salt water aquarium maintenance

Aquarium maintenance requires certain steps to be followed. Firstly one should decide what kind of fish you want to keep in your fish tank and in what quantity. There are different kinds of fish and they require different care, space, equipment and condition.

It is always advisable to research on species before putting them into the aquarium. One should take care of the food given to the fish. It is said that put in as much food that the fish will consume in a two minute time. Overfeeding should not be done rather completely avoided as it can pollute the tank and is harmful for the fish too.

The size of the tank should be appropriate. One should check the equipments fitted in the fish tank like filters, heaters, water conditioners, test kits etc.

One should set the tank and cycle it.

One should change not add to many fishes together in the fish tank as it may overload the filtration process One should change 20-30 % of water weekly and while filling the fish tank with the water one should remember to treat it with water conditioner.

One should remove the waste and uneaten food from the aquarium daily with the help of a net and one should not forget to clean the net before and after using. One should also keep necessary check on temperature, control, lighting and feeding one should not keep the fish tank in direct sunlight as it will allow green algae to propagate which is harder to clean.

If one is careful and keeps regular check, maintenance of aquarium is not that difficult.
